Naughty or Heist is a party game that plays on one phone, with no internet connection needed. This page explains what the app keeps on your phone and the small amount it sends when it checks for game updates.
The short version
The app has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising and no analytics. Player names, room names, photos, scores and everything else about your game nights are never sent to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your phone
To make the game work, the app keeps a few things in its own private storage on your device:
- Your current game night, including the player names you type in, so you can resume if the app closes. A saved night is cleared after 12 hours or when you start a new one.
- Which missions your group has already played, so the game can show fresh ones next time. This is a list of mission names only.
- The last crew's player names and room names, so the same group can start the next night in one tap. Starting a night with a different crew replaces them.
The app doesn't send any of this anywhere. If your phone backs up its apps to your own Google or iCloud account, that backup can include it. Uninstalling the app deletes it from your phone.
Camera
The camera is used only in one mission, The Lineup, and only after you allow it. Photos are taken inside the app, kept in its private storage for that round, and deleted as soon as the round ends, when you leave the mission, and every time the app starts. Photos are never saved to your photo library and are never sent anywhere. The app doesn't use the microphone.
Game updates
When the app opens on a phone with an internet connection, it checks for game updates, such as new wording or bug fixes, and downloads any it finds. Updates are delivered by Expo, the company whose tools the app is built with. Without a connection, the check is skipped and the game plays as normal.
The check sends:
- the phone's operating system (Android or iOS);
- which version of the game is installed;
- a random code created when the app is first used. It identifies this install of the app, not you or your phone, and it usually changes if you reinstall. It is used to deliver updates and to count how many installs have received them;
- if the update system itself ran into a serious error, a short technical description of that error.
Like any internet connection, the check also shows Expo's servers the phone's IP address. Nothing from your game is included. Expo's privacy policy covers how Expo handles this information. We don't use it to identify anyone.
Children
Naughty or Heist is for adults only. Everyone playing must be 18 or older, and the app asks the group to confirm this before every game. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Emailing us and this website
If you email us, including to ask for a tip-off when the game launches, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to send the launch tip-off if you asked for one, and we don't sell or share it. Ask and we'll delete it.
This website has no analytics or advertising. It is hosted by GitHub Pages and loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so those companies can see your IP address when a page loads.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
